Los Angeles, Calif. - September 18, 2006 - Quixotic Media, LLC announced today the upcoming DVD release of the feature documentary, "Islam: What the West Needs to Know" - An examination of Islam, Violence, and the Fate of the Non-Muslim World, following the limited theatrical release in July.
The DVD will be available nationwide on October 17.

I assume the goal here is to demonstrate the level of barbarity of "the enemy" and underscore the necessity for force. But what emerges instead is the filmmakers' investment in spectacle. Like the cut from Saddam Hussein's cruelty to the U.S. invasion, such footage eradicates the complexity of the situation in Iraq. The beheadings of prisoners in Iraq is unconscionable. The use of such footage to advance retroactively a premeditated agenda for war is unforgivable.

Each one of us knows what happened on September 11th, 2001. We all know about the tragedies that took place in New York City, in Washington DC, in Pennsylvania on that fateful morning. 19 men affiliated with the Osama Bin Laden's terrorist organization Al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners and accomplished their evil and murderous plans: that day is now known as September 11. Each team of hijackers included a trained pilot; two planes (United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11) crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into each tower (WTC1 and WTC2). Both towers collapsed within two hours. The pilot of the third team crashed a plane into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. Passengers and members of the crew on the fourth aircraft, United Airlines Flight 93, attempted to retake control of their plane from the hijackers; that plane crashed into a field near the town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Three thousand people died as a result of these attacks.
